"Speakers' Corner"
(sequência daqui) Aparentemente pouco apetecível como matéria para versões memoráveis, agora que Suzanne Vega, quase 10 anos após Lover, Beloved: Songs from an Evening with Carson McCullers, regressa com Flying With Angels, foi justamente por essa via que arriscou penetrar: "Chambermaid", pastiche melódico/harmónico mais que explícito de "I Want You", apresenta-se ("I'm the great man's chambermaid, I've seen where his hallowed head is laid, I revere the places he has played and clean crumbs from his typewriter") e, distraídamente, deixa cair "You want to know, did I ever steal? He never leaves anything out that's real, I took nothing he would miss, but only once I stole a kiss", perfil psicológico relâmpago mas esclarecedor. De Mariupol a Galway, o olhar de Suzanne obriga-nos ainda a pensar no velho Speakers' Corner: "In politics and song, I guess we better use it now before we find it gone".
