THE VELVET UNDERGROUND: LIVE AT THE GYMNASIUM, NYC

I'm not into VU bootlegs really, but apparently this is a big deal. It's the ONLY available live stuff from 1967 and has only become available in literally the last two days. Recorded just after the release of The Velvet Underground And Nico and featuring the debut performance of "Sister Ray" (19 mins long) and the previously unheard song "I'm Not A Young Man Any More". That's right, A NEW VELVET UNDERGROUND SONG. And it's fucking good too. This version of "Sister Ray" absolutely shreds and is what the Velvet Underground are all about. I'm just listening now and i can already say that, in addition to the historical importance of these five recordings, this thing rocks like a motherfucker.

«One of the Sister Rays here, in fact, provides my favorite ever Velvet Underground moment. At some point in the song, Lou gets to the point where he sings the lyrics "She's busy sucking on my ding-dong", and some sensitive young girl in the audience audibly FREAKS THE F--K OUT. She's yelling and screaming and carrying on like somebody just hit her in the face with a baseball bat. Lou, with his usual aplomb, reacts to this by temporarily electing not to go on with the song as planned and instead decides to continue singing that particular line over and over again, in his most threatening New York sneer, for several minutes. It is HILARIOUS, and one moment of that is worth five minutes of Iggy Pop taunting a hall full of angry bikers, easily. Obtain a copy of this bootleg for this moment alone, if for no other reason.»

Great!
Não é de facto todos os dias, não. Agora que li este post lembrei-me que tenho o DVD para ver do filme "Factory Girl". Vocês sabem do que estou a falar...

Olha, boa! E tinha-me escapado isto. Por completo. O alemão dentro de mim está mais exigente a cada dia.
