FLY ME TO THE MOON

Le Voyage Dans La Lune (real. George Méliès, 1902)
+ "Fly Me To The Moon" - Astrud Gilberto, 1965

"Le Voyage Dans la Lune (aka A Trip to the Moon) gives you a pretty good idea what European foreign policies were like at the beginning of the 20th century: go to some exotic places and kill everyone you can get your hands on, then simply fuck off when the heat becomes unbearable and hopefully drag some of the natives down with you. Still a classic I guess and somewhat charming in its theatrical simplicity. To tell the truth, I prefer the Julie London version, but Astrud does it like no-one else. You find this song on her The Shadow of Your Smile album, that was released by Verve in 1965. But I bet you knew that already" (matthiasheuermann)

... comparemos, então, Astrud com Julie (embora seja importante esclarecer que os comentários do matthiasheuermann relativamente ao 2001 não lhe irão fazer novos amigos por aqui...):

Barbarella (real. Roger Vadim, 1968)
+ 2001 - A Space Odissey (real. Stanley Kubrick, 1968)
+ "Fly Me To The Moon" - Julie London

"Barbarella and 2001. Both are science fiction films released in 1968 and both had a slightly psychodelic theme. But this is where the similarity ends. I used to like 2001 better but nowadays I prefer Barbarella as it has everything that 2001 is missing (and vice versa). I wish Kubrick had directed Barbarella or that Jane Fonda had played the lead in 2001. I guess you can't have everything. Oh yes, and check out the work of Julie London. Especially her first 40 Albums. Great stuff throughout"
