Honey Don’t titles: design process

"For director Ethan Coen's movie Honey Don't, Paul Donnellon designed a creative mini road movie using documentary footage filmed in Bakersfield. Paul edted the footage to the music track "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" originally sung by the Animals. Paul took the signs of the various shops and road side locations as a cue and turned each one into a stylised design to hold the actors and crews credits. Some were hand painted to match the lo-fi handmade typography of the shops and with a bit of ageing to distress the graphics to sit them in effectively to the location shots. In a few shots 3d graphics were used to replicate a motel sign or a perspex light box. Each credit had to be tracked in after effects and also cinema 4d to keep it mapped to the travelling building it is placed on. In a few tricky shots the credits had to be hand tracked when the shot didn't have enough detail for the tracking system. The final sequence flows nicely and creates an atmosphere to bring the viewer into the desert location".
